Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book a consultation with Autumn?
To book a consultation with Autumn, either go to any of the styles pages, or, go to the main page and click the button “Book Now!” just under the introduction. The link will take you to the “Consultation Request Form” and from there you can fill out all the information that will be needed to collaborate on your next tattoo design. After you fill out the form, it will be reviewed and you will be emailed from makeitraynnetattoos@gmail.com. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response, and if you don’t receive a response by then, please email me (Autumn!) directly.
Why should I book with Autumn?
Since I began tattooing, I’ve always been taught that the client experience is one of the most important aspects of the process. I take this to heart, ensuring that at the end of every session, my clients walk away with a tattoo they will love forever. I guide each client through the design process, offering advice on placement, detail, and longevity—essential elements that contribute to a successful tattoo. I also take the time to get to know my clients and understand the inspiration behind their ideas, so each tattoo is uniquely personalized to them.
How far in advance should I book my tattoo?
I recommend booking your tattoo at least a month in advance, but feel free to schedule it as far ahead as necessary. Consider any upcoming vacations, as healing a tattoo while traveling can be challenging. If you're planning a larger piece, be sure you're confident in your design and ready to commit to multiple sessions if needed. It's also helpful to book far enough in advance to properly budget for your tattoo. For smaller tattoos, you can schedule as far ahead as you’d like based on your needs.
Does Autumn take walk-ins or only appointments?
I usually work by appointment-only, however, I am happy to take walk-ins Fridays and Saturdays. I do require that you schedule a consultation so that you can secure a time and date for your tattoo (and so that you don’t come in for me to not be able to take you!)
How do artists determine their pricing—by the hour or by the piece?
Ah, the question of the century! And I'm here to add to your confusion—every artist is different. We all have different needs and determine our own worth. Some artists have families to support or overhead costs that clients may not be aware of, so prices can vary widely. Plus, unlike a typical 9-5 job, we don’t get benefits, so our pricing also covers life’s unexpected costs. My advice: don’t price shop! Be ready to invest in quality work from an artist you’ve talked to and vibe with—you’ll be spending a lot of time together, and their work will be on you forever. As for me, I price by the hour, and the cost depends on factors like size, detail, style, and any custom requests.
Is the artist budget friendly?
Yes! I am happy to work with budgets (it’s rough out there!) as long as the budget is reasonable, and in the consultation we can discuss what can be done with your budget on a case-by-case basis.
I’ve booked my tattoo, what should I do to prepare for my session?
As most of my clients live in the wonderful state of Colorado, one thing that I always educate them on is that it is VERY dry here. Therefore, skincare is the most important thing you can do to prepare for your tattoo. Moisturize your skin at lease twice a day and drink plenty of water so that your skin can be super hydrated just to be scratched up again (jk it’s a professional scratch). If you want to know how else you can prepare, please see my Pre-care/Aftercare Page!
What can I expect during my tattoo session?
During your tattoo session, you can expect to feel various levels of comfort and discomfort. The shop that I work in provides free snacks and drinks that are available to the clients in case you forget those at home. When you arrive for your appointment, you will first fill out a consent form (bring your ID!). We will then go over the design together and make all necessary changes so that we both love it. Once we confirm the design, I will start the stenciling process and get to it! You can definitely expect good vibes and good conversations (if you like to do so) from me, but most importantly I am there to make sure that you are as comfortable and safe during a permanent procedure!
How do I care for my new tattoo?
The best way to care for your tattoo is to follow the aftercare instructions your artist provides! While most artists recommend similar aftercare routines, everyone is different—what works for one person might not work for another. So, be sure to follow the specific instructions given to you at the end of your tattoo session and consult with your artist if you have any questions.
Will the tattoo fade over time? How can I prevent it?
Here comes the nerd in me. Since tattoo ink is a foreign substance, your immune system immediately begins breaking it down as you’re getting tattooed. Macrophages work tirelessly over the years trying to break down the ink particles and flush them through your lymphatic system. Naturally, this causes tattoos to appear less vibrant (aka “faded”) over time. And let’s not forget about our friendly neighborhood sun—UV rays are your tattoo’s worst enemy and will speed up this fading process. Since your body is constantly working to break down the tattoo, it’s important to live a healthy lifestyle (stay hydrated, practice good skincare, manage stress, avoid smoking/drinking) to extend its lifespan. If you spend a lot of time outside, be sure to apply sunscreen frequently and keep your tattoo covered when possible. Trust me, I’ve been the person who faded a tattoo because I didn’t use sunscreen!
Does the artist offer touch-ups, and are they included in the price?
I do offer touch-ups! They are free as long as they are small and don’t take a whole day. If you want to add elements to your tattoo, it is not considered a touch-up and will require its own quote. Also, there is a charge to a touch-up of a tattoo that I did not originally do. I am happy to answer any questions you have for this!
What are the common risks or complications with tattoos, and how can they be avoided?
The most common risk with permanent body art is infection, often due to improper aftercare. If the tattoo isn’t kept clean or is exposed to contaminated surfaces, there’s a high chance it could get infected. This risk increases during travel, especially if you expose a fresh tattoo to the sun, or submerge it in water at the lake or beach. Think of your new tattoo as a wound—take it easy, relax indoors, fuel up on carbs to recover, and follow the aftercare instructions closely. If you have any questions, always reach out to your artist for guidance. But if an infection does occur, be sure to see a doctor.
How do I know if the tattoo artist follows proper hygiene and sterilization practices?
It’s essential to do your research before choosing a tattoo artist! It's your responsibility to check that your artist is properly licensed in Permanent Body Art and has completed training in Blood Borne Pathogens. In Denver, both are required, and I’m always happy to show my credentials upon request. I take sanitation very seriously (I’ve seen my share of questionable practices in the past), and I ensure my station is thoroughly cleaned before and after every client. During sessions, I place barriers on everything I touch and always wear the proper protective gear to prevent cross-contamination and keep both myself and my clients safe. If you have any questions about my sanitation practices, feel free to ask during your consultation!!
